Since 1996, PGA has awarded the Defender of Democracy Award at its Annual Forum. The Defender of Democracy Award is presented to individuals who, through their own commitment and active engagement, have made significant progress in strengthening democracy and democratic practices.

The Defender of Democracy Award will be granted this year at a dinner offered to the parliamentarians attending the 30th Annual Forum at Hotel El Embajador in Santo Domingo on the evening of 30 October 2008.

The recipients of the 2008 Defender of Democracy Award will be announced shortly.
